Lifestyle Design, Location Independence, Online Entrepreneurship, Online Passive Income.

These are all buzz-words that have become extremely hot in the last few years.  There are so many websites trying to sell you something that will let you Get Rich Quick on the Internet!

If your scam spidey-senses go off whenever you see the above, they should!  There’s no such thing as easy money.  You have to work for it online, just like you do in the “real world.”

However, there are many examples of real “online entrepreneurs” who do support themselves and their families working far less than 40 hours a week and doing something they love.  They had to work hard to get where they are today, but the rewards are well worth the effort.

So how do we separate the good from the bad, the simple, truthful instructions from the scams?  What really works?  How easy or hard is it to do this?  How long will it take?  How much can an average person expect to make?

That’s what I’m here to find out, and I hope you’ll join me.

I’m Chris.  Online Passive Income Journey is the story of my foray into generating income outside of the 9 to 5.  It’s designed to be a road-map for you who are on a similar path or wondering if you should invest your precious time in attempting a similar Journey of your own.  You can read more about why I started Online Passive Income Journey here.

I’m not an expert (yet), but I’ve spent months sifting the torrent of information and laying the groundwork to start my own online business.  I know enough to start and help you get started with me.

I’ve made the choice to take those first steps on the Journey.  If you join me, we’ll figure out what works and pass it on to others on the same Journey.

Who am I?

My wife and I live in Vancouver, Canada with our 10 month old son.  I’m a 40-year-old engineering manager at a multinational company.  My wife is also a professional.  By most of the usual measures, we’re very successful.  We have good jobs and a good income.  So why would I be looking to spend a bunch of my precious spare time setting up a new income stream?

Well, that’s a fair question.  It isn’t because we’re greedy and want more income.  It’s because we want more time.  More time with each other and especially more time with our son and his eventual sibling.  When they’re old enough, we want to be able to quit our jobs and literally sail off into the sunset, across the Pacific Ocean.

We have five or six years to save up, but if we can also have a steady income from passive online sources, then we can live and travel on our sailboat for that much longer.  Money will still come in when we’re at sea or snorkeling a reef with our kids, anchored off a remote atoll in the South Pacific.  I can maintain the sites when we pop into an area with adequate internet connectivity.

If we can maintain a passive income of about $2000 per month, we can live like that indefinitely.  Even if we’re bringing in $500 per month it will help extend our time away before we need to return to the 9 to 5.

So I’ve decided to turn my passions for lifestyle design, finances, and sailing into one or more blogs and learn how to monetize them.  I am new at this, so we’ll be learning together.  I’m a pretty methodical guy and I love to share what I know.  I hope that this blog will help me keep myself disciplined and organized, and I hope that my journey will help pave the way for yours!

  1. Hey Chris,

I think you have a great objective. Not only did you understand where you want to go, but also what it means to you.

Keep that close as the journey gets hard. I can’t wait to see your adventure!
